Messages From Our Clients
James Mclauchlan
10 years of facilitating over 1000 events with 100’s of different companies has taught me 1 thing above all else. The team culture and dynamics of the participants mirrors the leader in the room.
Nothing brings this into focus for me more than when I run multiple events for the same company but with different departments.
One morning I was chatting to the leader of department A before the event. He was easy going, talkative, interested in the program. He took a few minutes to walk around the room meeting the team as they arrived. People arrived on time and there was the hum of general chitchat in the air, the event was a breeze, everyone participated, enjoyed the experience and the leader took an active part throughout.
The next day department B arrived, half the room was missing just a few minutes before the event, there was NO chatting at all, lots of people staring at their phones.
The leader arrived shortly before the event started and stood at the back of the room with his arms crossed. He didn’t participant at all though the event but we still did our best to engage the group.
The overall event really wasn’t great. Same company, same event, 2 different leaders, vastly different outcomes.
If you are a leader yourself or someone looking for information on leadership there are 3 things that stand out to me.
1. Have you ever seriously consciously considered whether you actually want to be a leader? Leadership is not easy, it takes time and energy and may never give you the same satisfaction as being an individual contributor. Don’t just fall into leadership because it may be tied to a higher salary.
2. Leaders have far more influence on the people around them than they might realise, simply look at my story above. Self awareness the starting place on your leadership journey. Start by knowing your strengths. The Clifton Strengths Finder is a well known and accessible tool to discover your strengths.
3. It’s a continuous journey. Over the last 5 years there is an increase in focus on support and coaching, especially for the younger generations. Do you consider yourself an effective coach? One simple but effective coaching model I still sometimes still use today is the GROW model.

Leadership Training – General Information & FAQ
What can I learn from leadership training?
Leadership training at Jambar focuses on developing key skills like effective communication, emotional intelligence, decision-making, and team-building. Participants learn how to inspire and motivate teams, navigate complex challenges, and lead with confidence and integrity.
What is the best training for leadership?
The ‘best’ leadership training is one that is tailored to the specific needs of the individual leaders and the organisation. Ideally, it will help leaders to make both short and long-term changes in themselves and those around them. Where possible a mix of theoretical learning and practical exercises, including case studies, role-playing, and real-world problem-solving scenarios help to keep session interactive.
What is involved in leadership training?
Leadership training typically involves a combination of workshops, seminars, and interactive activities designed to develop leadership skills. It may also include one-on-one coaching, peer feedback sessions, and experiential learning activities.
What are the best trainings for managers?
Effective trainings for managers include courses on people management, conflict resolution, strategic planning, and performance management. Training that focuses on building soft skills, such as communication and emotional intelligence, is also highly beneficial.
What is an executive or C-Suite leadership program?
An executive leadership program is a specialized training designed for high-level executives and senior managers. These programs focus on advanced leadership concepts, strategic thinking, organizational change management, and decision-making at an executive level.
How do you organize leadership training?
At Jambar, we organise leadership training by first assessing the specific needs and objectives of the organisation and individuals. We then design a program that includes a blend of theoretical learning and practical exercises tailored to the skill level and challenges faced by the participants.
Why is leadership training important in an organization?
Leadership training is vital as it equips leaders with the necessary skills to effectively manage teams, drive organisational success, and adapt to changing business environments. It also plays a crucial role in succession planning and fostering a strong leadership culture within the organisation. There are simply too many studies to quote that show the short and long term benefits of leadership training.
How can leadership training programs be more effective?
Beyond the actual training training program, which should be interactive, relevant, and aligned with the organisation’s goals, leadership develpement should be a journey.
Effectiveness is enhanced when the training is paired with continuous learning at least once a month, this could be short check-ins, self-learning, and small group micro sessions or professional coaching.
